Kim Klassen’s Wisdom Texture Added

In Susannah Conway’s book, This I Know (paid link), she challenges us to write a post about 10 Things You Might Not Know About Me.Β This week, in Kim Klassen’s Beyond Layers Class, she asked us to write 10 Truths About Ourselves. Then, on Sally Gentle Drew’s blog, she shares her 10 values that she lives by and encourages us to think about ours. I just happened to do that a few weeks ago while reading another book about being an on-purpose person. These things are not normally what I write about on this blog. But, in honour of my birthday (today), I will combine these three.

10 Things About Me (updated 2023)

1. I’m a dual citizen (Canada/U.S.), Canadian by birth. After 25 years in the U.S., my husband and I are moved back to Canada in 2012. Part of my heart is still with dear friends in the U.S.

2. I am Frank Sinatra’s biggest fan (in my own mind) – always the romantic. Music is essential for my health.

3. After college, my best friend and I drove across Canada to Vancouver, B.C. with very little money, no place to stay, and no job. Luckily, we found jobs and a place to stay. Although we only stayed six months, it was a big adventure, one of the best memories of my life.

4. The big tragedy of my life was without a doubt the loss of both of my parents when they were in their 50’s. We missed out on a whole new level in our relationships. And, I secretly worry I won’t make it past my 50’s. Update: I did.

5. I am an extreme introvert and have to push myself to socialize (but am usually glad when I do). However, I have a few deep, lifelong friendships that mean the world to me.

6. Besides my marriage of 40 plus years and my three great kids, my dog Daisy is the next best thing that ever happened to me. Daisy passed away in August of 2015, a week shy of her 16th birthday. I miss her every day and no, we don’t yet have another dog.

7. I treasure freedom, authenticity, trustworthiness, and especially openness to different ways of seeing.

8. I’m a recycling queen and cannot throw out anything plastic.

9. My downfalls and great joys are good bread, great wine, and chocolate.

10. I used to sleep a lot, averaging at least 8 hours per night. It’s hard for me to get up in the morning, which as a photographer, means I miss out on the best light. Update: I now have trouble sleeping – ugh! But, I still don’t get up for the light.

Tell me something about you I don’t know. It will be my birthday present.
