Living a contemplative life means that you are fully present to the life you’re living. You can take a long, loving look at your reality and accept the joys as well as the sorrows. You feel connected to all of life.

Through my own life experiences and learning about contemplative living, I’ve found that the following 9 habits are key ingredients.

Openness
… is letting go and allowing the world to transform you and allowing your gifts to transform the world.

Curiosity
… is wanting to understand. It shows up as asking questions and knowing that there is always more below the surface.

Attention
… is careful observation. It’s about taking that long, loving look rather than a quick glance.

Wonder
… is seeing the miracles in our daily lives. It’s seeing that the ordinary is extraordinary.

Possibilities
… are seen when we realize that change is ongoing. Nothing is a lost cause. There are infinite outcomes and perspectives.

Humility
… is knowing that everything is an opportunity for learning.

Acceptance
… is letting go of judgment and expectations; seeing reality for what it is and not what you want it to be.

Simplicity
… is always available to us. It gives us the space to really see and experience life.

Connection
… is what life is all about. It’s the only way to experience love and belonging.
