Kim Manley Ort

Writer, Photographer, Workshop Facilitator

Hello and welcome.

Since the beginning of 2021, I’ve been writing about Seeing Clearly on Substack, beginning with weekly practices around seeing clearly and focusing on the place where you live. Since 2023, I’ve been sorting through my writing since 2010 in search of major themes and posting monthly essays on these themes. And, I still take my daily walks, camera in hand, as a practice of paying attention to the place where I live (and occasionally post on Instagram).

You can find the latest posts, as well as the Seeing Clearly archive, by clicking on the buttons to your right. Below, you’ll find an archive of blog posts since 2010, as well as links to and information about on-demand workshops. You can sign up for my occasional newsletter too.

Lichens, Mosses, and Fungi, Oh My

Three books I read in the last couple of years have me seeing fungi, moss, and lichens in a whole new way. What do these organisms have in common? Their smallness, their willingness to cooperate with other organisms, and their ability to adapt and survive. A couple of...

Farewell to 2020 and Favourite Books

It’s been quite a year, hasn’t it? My year began with the best intentions. My husband and I were looking forward to a year of travel with two big trips and seven weddings to attend. In between, I planned to continue experiencing and writing about perception for a...
